As of  January 1, 2010 the laws pertaining to sex offenders and their responsibilities regarding registration have changed considerably. Use the links below to educate yourself regarding the new laws.

Sex offenders present a high risk to commit repeat offenses. Efforts by law enforcement agencies to protect their communities, conduct investigations, and quickly apprehend sex offenders may be impaired by the lack of available information about individuals who have pleaded guilty to or have been found guilty of sex offenses and who live, work, or attend school in their jurisdiction. The Sex Offender Registration Act assists efforts of local law enforcement agencies to protect their communities by requiring sex offenders to register with local law enforcement agencies as provided by the Sex Offender Registration Act.

Sex offender registrations may be done in Madison County at the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, 1313 N. Main Street, Madison, Nebraska Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm. Please bring proper ID and be prepared to answer questions regarding living status, criminal history, and incarceration.

The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) is the repository of the SOR information with the local sheriffs being the primary point of contact for the regsitrants. The NSP has several helpful pages regarding the SOR, including and RSS feed of absconded offenders, and a search function for ALL registrants.
